If you love to keep the good old traditions alive, this is your selection. Six prestigious, legendary Spanish wines loved by good aficionados all over the world.
We begin with two of La Rioja's great red wines: Viña Ardanza Reserva 2007 and Viña Tondonia Reserva 2003. Elegant, delicate, age-worthy, and with a kind of intemporal quality that, to be honest, only the great wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy can match.
Not far from La Rioja, in the neighbouring Ribera del Duero, Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2010 established itself as a modern classic almost immediately after it was first released by the Abadía Retuerta winery. A wine for special occasions.
Condado de Haza Crianza 2011, by the one and only Alejandro Fernández -the man who almost single-handedly put the Ribera del Duero wines back in the map about thirty years ago with his great Pesquera-, is an honest Tempranillo that will delight the many admirers of the old, truly Ribera style.
We end with a light touch. Made from Mencía in the northern Spanish region of El Bierzo, Pétalos del Bierzo 2013, crafted by the prestigious Palacios family, is a red wine that offers yummy notes of fresh red fruit, a touch of spices and a wonderful mineral background. This wine combines the finesse of a Pinot Noir with the character of a Tempranillo. Wow!
