A remarkable Spanish red wine, Teixar is made solely from Hairy Grenache, a mutation of the well-known Grenache grape indigenous to Catalonia.
This variety produces wines that, while retaining the irresistibly fruity character of the Grenache wines, also show a deeper, more introspective side.
This wine, one of the very few in Catalonia to bear the seal "Vi de Finca Qualificada" (meaning "Certified Estate Wine"), is made from grapes coming from organically farmed vines that are more than 70 years of age.
They are planted on terraces oriented North-South at the very heart of Montsant. Soils are composed of sand and limestone.
First the grapes were meticulously harvested. Then the wine must was divided in 7 parts, fermented using only indigenous yeasts and separately vinified.
After that, this wine by the Vinyes Domènech winery was blended and aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.
Finally, Teixar 2014 was further aged for several months in the bottle prior to its commercial release.
Decant a minimum of 2 hours before drinking.
Drink this red wine from Montsant from now until 2024.
This varietal Hairy Grenache by Vinyes Domènechis truly complex, even kaleidoscopic. First sensations evoke notes of toffe and Tahitian vanilla, after which we perceive notes of lavender, rosemary, wet stones and underbush. The aromas of red fruit remain on the background and, as the wine opens, they slowly gain prominence. Finally, we perceive some dim toasted notes and a dash of blue flowers.
Nerve, elegance and smoothness. This Vi de Finca from Montsant suggests some delicious notes of cranberries and wild strawberries, enticing hints of menthol, resin and pine needles, a resounding minerality and a dash of liquor-infused fruit. Texture is superb, tannins are lively and acidity is very precise. Very long finish, leaving traces of minerality and the sense of a great terroir.
|Our personal opinion||
An age-worthy organic red wine whose best years are yet to come, Teixar 2014 has something that very few wines possess: mistery.

What smoothness!! What texture!! A sort of twilight Grenache. Understated, silky-textured, extremely subtle and ever-evolving. Nice remembrances of menthol, garrigue, black fruit, with a nice tip of vanilla and a delicately sweet note.
