This is a jewel of wine. A super-limited production Spanish red wine from DO Toro.
The mighty Termanthia is a single varietal Tinta de Toro wine made from grapes coming from a single plot.
Located at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level, the vines were planted between 1870 and 1890.
In other words, this red wine from Toro is made from over 120-year-old, ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines.
The harvest of this wine produced by the Numanthia winery was meticulous. Then the grapes were crushed by foot, fermented in truncated cone-shaped French oak barrels of different sizes and macerated with the skins for at least 1 month.
After that, this varietal Tinta de Toro underwent malolactic fermentation in the same containers and was aged for 6 months.
Then Termanthia 2013 was transferred into new French oak barrels and aged for a further 16 months.
The wine was bottled unfiltered and aged for 18 months in the cellar before its commercial release.
Decant a minimum of 4 hours before drinking.
Drink until 2035. Production of 5,000 bottles.
The red wine Termanthia has a high, extremely dark cherry-coloured robe with some blackish nuances.
It is hard to convey the richness and complexity of this Tinta de Toro red wine. Raspberries, blackberries, plums, Amarena cherries, wild strawberries, combined with aromas of rose petals, lavender, jasmine, clove, laurel, black pepper, vanilla and cardamom. On the background, deep mineral intimations, alongside remembrances of tea leaves, Havanna cigars, balsam, toasted almonds, leather, wet earth and mineral. This nose is a real treasure-trove.
Might, power and elegance, but so compressed that right now they may seem overpowering. This red wine from Toro by Bodega Numanthia is no ordinary wine, and really needs some years to unfurl its unique qualities. Anyway, acidity is nothing short of exceptional, as well as then tannins and the overall structure. Notes of fruit, mineral, spices, flowers, balsam, toast and earth. Immensely long, ever-changing finish.

A Super-Toro. It really needs A LOT of time to unfurl, but it's worth the wait. However, I'd put on the cellar for 4-5 years.
