The wine from Priorat Tirant is a benchmark for full-bodied and powerful wines, while remaining pleasant, elegant, and exquisite at the same time. The wine´s name “Tirant” refers to the main character of Tirant lo Blanc, a chivalry novel written in catalan by Joanot Martorell in the 15th century and considered by many, including Cervantes, to be the best novel of its genre ever written.
Back to this Spanish red wine, it is made from a blend of five varieties. The two main grapes are Grenache and Samsó (aka Carignan), with little additions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The harvest of the Grenache and Carignan grapes, both coming from more than 80-year-old vineyards, was done on the 23rd of September. The fermentation took place in cone shaped 5,000 liter vats at controlled temperatures between 21 and 24ºC. This unique type of vat is used to enhance the aromatic expression of the wine and to further extract the grape pigments (which give the wine its color). This fermentation process was homogenized with six daily pump-overs.
This bold red wine from Priorat was then transferred into French oak barrels (Tronçais) for malolactic fermentation and was aged in those barrels for 12 months. After this, the final blend was made barrel by barrel to achieve a perfect balance. Only 17,010 bottles were launched onto the market. Currently at its peak, Tirant 2005 still has some good 3 years ahead of it.
Decant 2 hours before drinking.
The red wine Tirant has a ripe cherry robe with a bright garnet rim.
This intense Crianza red wine is reminiscent of delicate and ripe black forest fruits, sweet plum jams, toffee notes, black liquorice and roasted coffee beans. This blend of five varieties also suggests some fresh eucalyptus and menthol notes, intertwined with hints of tobacco, clove, sweet vanilla and spices. As the wine breathes it displays an enticing earthy background and a noticeable minerality.
Fresh and full-bodied in the mouth, this Priorat red wine has some ripe, savoury tannins and a slightly astringent touch that excites our palate. Pleasant and flavorful ripe fruits go hand in hand with balsamic and coffee notes. This wine by Rotllan Torra has a good acidity and a persistent, fruity finish with nuanced mineral notes. It has a deeply mineral aftertaste with some spicy nuances.

Wonderfully old-fashioned, sort of Rioja meets Priorat style. Slightly evolved, immensely suggestive and autumnal.
