The 2010 vintage of this Spanish red wine from Rioja, Viña Ardanza Reserva, was a very good one. After a rainy winter, a dry, hot summer allowed the grapes to ripen steadily and completely.
This Crianza red wine is a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Grenache. The 30-year-old Tempranillo grapes come from “La Cuesta” and “Montecillo” estates, located in the towns of Fuenmayor and Cenicero, Rioja Alta.
On the other hand, the Grenache comes from vineyards about 600 metres high near “La Pedriza” estate, in Tudelilla, Rioja Baja. The combination of elegant, high-acid Tempranillo and lush, juicy Grenache is an ideal one, as Tempranillo provides a solid skeleton and Grenache supplies the flesh.
Vinification and ageing of each varietal were carried out separately. Tempranillo spent 36 months in 4th year American oak barrels, while Grenache was aged for 30 months in 2nd and 3rd year American oak. Manual racking was performed 5 times throughout the winemaking process.
Finally, Viña Ardanza Reserva 2010 was bottled in March 2015 and was aged for a further years in the bottle before its release.

The wine Viña Ardanza Reserva has a medium, ruby-cherry coloured robe with a brick rim.
This blend of Tempranillo and Grenache shows a quintessential Rioja Style. Delicate ageing nuances: chocolate, arabica coffee beans, cocoa, vanilla and spicy notes of white pepper and clove. This wine by La Rioja Alta also suggests deep aromas of black fruit with hints of tobacco and fine leather.
After a gentle, smooth entrance, this reserve red wine from La Rioja shows a generous, yet supple body. Ripe red fruit, some balsamic notes, undergrowth and hints of liquorice and Jamaica pepper. Excellent balance with gentle, well-integrated tannins and a tight structure. Great length and a complex aftertaste of sandalwood and Eastern spices.
