The Vintae group, lead by Raúl Acha, created Bodega Monastir to craft high quality red wines in a region, Navarra, once famous for producing some of the best red wines in Spain. All of the winery's wines are estate wines that come from vines located in pristine environments on the right bank of the Ebro river, not far from the border between Navarra and La Rioja.
The winery owns 40 hectares of low-yielding vineyards that produce grapes of a very high quality. The composition of the soil and the climatic conditions under which the grapes grow are almost ideal.
The red wines of the Bodega Monastir from Navarra show diverse features of their privileged terroir. These are signature wines that are modern and bold, with ripe tannins and a good ageing potential. All wines are made from a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, and they are aged between 14 and 18 months in French oak barrels.
The Vintae Group, founder of Bodega Monastir, is carrying out an extremely interesting investigation of the different terroirs of Spain through its different wineries. In the Toro DO, the Vintae Group runs Matsu, a company that produces some of the best values in the region. In the Sadacia Valley, a tiny region at the heart of La Rioja, Vintae manages Castillo de Maetierra. The Ribera del Duero region is represented by the De Bardos winery. Ribera de Queiles, a rediscovered wine region between Navarra and Aragón, is being explored by the Winery Arts winery. To conclude, we should not forget Vintae's latest project: Garnachas de España, which aims to present different kinds of varietal Grenache wines coming from the best Spanish terroirs.
