Finca La Melonera

Finca La Melonera

The aim of Finca La Melonera is to produce wines from recovered native varieties in the area of Ronda - Sierras de Málaga.

The project of Finca La Melonera was born with the objective of recovering the rich heritage of grape varieties native to the Ronda wine region, in the heart of Andalusia. The very name of La Melonera comes from an old red variety, of which so few hectares remain that it has not yet been put into production.

A brand of Grupo Perelada, Finca La Melonera owns a 196-hectare estate near the town of Ronda, at altitudes between 600 and 900 metres above sea level. Divided into approximately 29 plots between 0.5 and 2 hectares each, all benefit from great temperature differences between daytime and nighttime, a factor which allows the grapes to develop a high natural acidity.

As for the recovered red varieties, besides the already mentioned Melonera there are also Blasco and Corchero Tinta. The indigenous white grapes are Quiebrantinajas, Morisco and Platera. Moreover, the winery also grows Grenache, Syrah, Monastrell and Carignan.

Thus, the idea of Finca La Melonera is to produce wines combining Málaga's traditional varieties with some Mediterranean ones. Payoya Negra and La Encina del Inglés are the winery's best known products.
