A very interesting item, this Spanish red wine is produced by the highly respected Jorge Ordóñez, importer and producer of fine Spanish wines. This Zerrán is his take on the Montsant DO, which tries to reflect the particular character of the region.
Produced by Bodegas Ordóñez, Zerrán is made from a blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah grapes coming from a small, 4-hectare estate located in the town of Capçanes and comprised of very old vines. The plants grow mainly in limestone and slate (llicorella) soils.
Traditionally harvested and vinified, the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and subsequently transferred into 2nd and 3rd year French oak barrels. There it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for over a period of 10 months.
We suggest that you decant this expressive, mineral Crianza red wine at least 30 minutes before you drink it.
The red wine Zerran from the DO Montsant has a dark, intense, medium-high cherry coloured robe with a garnet rim.
This expressive red wine from Bodegas Ordóñez begins suggesting notes of black fruit and underbush, that evolve into fresh, lively notes of red fruit, sweet spices, some toasted notes, hints of blue flowers, and some mineral undertones.
Surprisingly well-balanced, this red wine from Montsant is full of fresh ripe fruit, enlivened by a dash of vanilla, cinnamon and cardamom, some sparks of red flowers and hints of toffee over a distinctive mineral background. Velvety body, good acidity and yummy tannins. Long, persistent finish.
|Our personal opinion||
A substantial wine that pairs beautifully with autumn and winter dishes, Zerrán 2015 clearly succeeds in expressing its native, mineral terroir.

Modern style Montsant. Pleasant and satisfying, with some nerve and substance.
