Product Description
Details

A varietal Grenache wine crafted by world-class Australian oenologist Chris Ringland of Barossa Valley fame, the red wine Alto Moncayo Veraton is born in the mountainous region of Campo de Borja, in the northern Spanish province of Aragón.

Produced by the Alto Moncayo winery, this varietal Spanish red wine is sourced from 30 to 60-year-old vineyards situated on the hills of the Moncayo mountains. Soils are rocky and extremely poor, while climate is quite extreme.

Harvested by hand, the grapes of this Crianza red wine were carefully selected and vinified. Malolactic fermentation and the subsequent 16-month ageing period took place in new American and French oak barrels.

Not filtered prior to bottling, the red wine Alto Moncayo Veraton 2020 should be decanted 1 hour before drinking.

This red wine from Campo de Borja will evolve beautifully over the next years.

Appearance

The red wine Alto Moncayo Veraton is deep purple with a garnet rim.

Nose

This is a deep and exuberant old-vines Grenache. Prominent notes of balsam, along with loads of black fruit, some intimations of red berries, notions of grinded pepper, english custard and moka. In the background, there appear subtle aromas of aromatic herbs, garrigue and dry earth.

Palate

Bold, slightly warm and well-structured, this wine from Alto Moncayo is smooth, with a velvety body and a great texture. Notes of liquor-infused fruit, balsam, flowers and dry earth, wrapped in some creamy nuances. Great acidity, ripe tannins and long, refreshing finish.

Our personal opinion

Elegant and savoury, the red wine Alto Moncayo Veraton 2020 has an excellent pleasure-value ratio.

Value
First-class Grenache, not as sturdy as it may seem considering it is a Somontano. The winery has softened its procedures, and now the oak is less prominent.
