<p>Founded in 1934, Bodega Félix Sanz was named after its founder, Don Félix Sanz, the heir of a winegrowing and winemaking tradition in the Rueda, region of Castilla y León spanning back several centuries. In 1980, the winery was one of the 12 founding members of the DO Rueda. In 2012, Mr. Albert Ustrell became the manager of the company, and soon after the oenologist Pilar García-Duque was appointed head winemaker. In 2024, the famed English wine critic Tim Atkin named García-Duque 'Winemaker of the Year' in his Rueda report. As a side note, it is worth mentioning that Ms. García-Duque's husband is none other than Didier Belondrade, the creator of the legendary white wine Belondrade y Lurton.</p>
<p>Covering a surface area of 30 hectares, the estate of Bodega Félix Sanz is located in Pago Cimbrón, at an altitude of 750 metres. The vines are planted in poor soils made of cobble stones and clay sitting on top of a limestone layer. The main variety is Verdejo, the flagship grape of DO Rueda, and there is also some Sauvignon Blanc. The site has a Continental climate, with long winters, short and suffocating summers and huge temperature differences between daytime and nighttime. The land is tended with sustainable and environmentally-friendly techniques.</p>
<p>The wines of Bodega Félix Sanz are vinified in stainless steel tanks, concrete diposits and oak barrels, where the top-range wines, like the white wine Piedras de Cimbrón, are typically aged. Before hitting the market, the wines are stored in an underground cellar dating from the XVth century.</p>
<p>Besides the Rueda project, the Félix Sanz winery makes red wines in the DO Ribera del Duero under the Montenegro label, in the IGP Castilla y León under the Abad Martín name and in DO Toro with the Vocablos brand.</p>
