Mas de Sant Marcell

Mas de Sant Marcell

A new family winery in Priorat.

In 2018, while visiting the Priorat region, the Oliver-Ponsarnau family from Penedès came across a beautiful 62-hectare estate situated near Cornudella de Montsant, right on the border between the DO Montsant and the DOQ Priorat. The estate, called Mas de Sant Marcell, had by that time been abandoned for over a decade. Enthralled by the rugged beauty of the place and inspired by its potential for producing quality wine, the family bought the estate in 2019 and moved there soon afterwards. The original project, initiated in the early 2000s by Antonio Casado, a businessman from Barcelona, had went south as a result of the economic crisis that started in 2008.

The estate vineyards of bodega Mas de Sant Marcell, a project that as of early 2026 is still in the development stage, cover a surface area of 22 hectares in the DO Montsant and 2 hectares in the DOQ Priorat. Additionally, the estate also has a further 4 hectares of olive trees. As for the vineyards, most of which are composed of slate soils, they are planted with the traditional varieties Grenache, CarignanWhite Grenache and Pedro Ximénez, which share the land with Cabernet Sauvignon, TempranilloMerlot, Cabernet Franc and Marselan.

The product portfolio of the Mas de Sant Marcell winery, that will be expanded over the next years, is currently comprised of the red wine Les Boleteres, a varietal Carignan from DOQ Priorat aged in oak barrels.
