Details

Known for Nita, one of the most approachable Spanish red wines from the sometimes forbidding Priorat region, winemaker Meritxell Pallejà presents the new vintage of her flagship wine.

A varietal Grenache, the red wine Magran Partida Les Manyetes is sourced from vineyards around 20 years of age. All of them are planted in a estate called Les Manyetes, composed of very hard slate soils of a very particular geological composition. All of the farming operations are performed manually, following the guidelines of biodynamic agriculture.

After the harvest, the grapes of this red wine from Priorat were destemmed, crushed and spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts and two daily punch-downs. Fermentation lasted for a lunar cycle.

Then this Grenache from Priorat was aged for 13 months in new and 2nd year French oak barrels. Lastly, the red wine Magran Partida Les Manyetes 2017 was kept for some years in the cellar before hitting the market.

Decant a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The wine Magran Partida Les Manyetes is deep ruby with a garnet rim.

Nose

Intense aromas of cherries, raspberries and aromatic herbs, very pure an expressive. Almost from the start, this Crianza red wine conveys some deep, amazingly pure mineral notions and an intense sense of terroir. This wine of Meritxell Pallejà also features some toasted and spicy notions that need some time to fully integrate, alongside suggestions of garrigue and Mediterranean underbrush.

Palate

This is a wine that, though it displays real complexity and an unmistakably Priorat character, is nevertheless quite young. Thus, this Grenache really needs some years so that its many qualities and nuances become harmonised. The fruit is superb, there is a real sense of place, and the tannins and the acidity promise a long life ahead.

Our personal opinion

The exciting wine Magran Partida Les Manyetes 2017 is a substantial addition to our portfolio of high-end Priorat wines.

Profound stuff. A bit overpowering right now, but with plenty of potential. Store it for 5 years minimum.

After having drunk many bottles of Nita, the entry-level wine of the winery, I was sort of anxious to taste their new flagship wine. It is a profound, super-telluric Grenache that will surely deliver a spectacular quality in a few years. Right now, it is a bit tight and compressed, with its potential not yet completely unfurled. Buy it know, but store it for some time.
