Alemany i Corrió

Alemany i Corrió

The Alemany i Corrió winery is a garage winery in the best sense of the term.

In 1999, Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió, a native from Penedès and a Frenchman, crossed paths while studying oenology in Burgundy. Back in Penedès, they decided to craft their own wine from a little vineyard belonging to Ms. Corrió's family. They rented an old storehouse in Vilafranca del Penedès, and thus began the story of the Sot Lefriec winery.

Currently, they work 8 hectares of vineyards located in the town of Lavern and planted on mild slopes. The varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, both around 25 years of age, an exceptional 60-year-old Carignan, and some white varieties such as Xarel·lo, Chardonnay and Malvasia. In all cases, the grapevine production is severely limited in order to ensure maximum quality. Looking ahead to the future, they are experimenting with indigenous varieties such as Sumoll.

Right now, Alemany i Corrió winery produces around 5,000 bottles per year. The winery crafts its wines following a minimal intervention approach, minimizing oxygen contact to avoid premox. The wines of Alemany i Corrió are therefore transferred only through gravity and using nitrogen and carbon dioxide. For this reason, it is highly advisable to decant their red wines, otherwise we will be stuck with some unpleasantly reductive aromas.
