Bodegas Tridente

Bodegas Tridente

The brand of Gil Family Estates in Castilla y León.

Founded in 2008 in Villanueva de Campeán, 30 km south of the city of Zamora, Bodegas Tridente is a branch of Gil Family Estates. The origins of the Juan Gil group go back to 1916, when Juan Gil Giménez began producing wine in the Jumilla region. Nowadays, more than a century after the first harvest, Juan Gil Family Estates is a well-established company of international reputation that produces wines in the most prestigious Spanish wine regions.

The wines of Bodegas Tridente are sourced from vineyards located principally in El Pego, in the Toro region. To avoid DO restrictions, though, the Gil family decided to bottle the Tridente wines under the Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla y León label, which allows for a greater diversity of grape varieties and vineyard locations.

Situated in the heart of the ancient Kingdom of León, an area with gelid winters and blisteringly hot summers, the estate vineyards of the Bodegas Tridente winery cover around 90 hectares, divided across 40 different parcels typically composed of sand and gravel soils. Most of the surface is planted with traditional red varieties like Tempranillo, Prieto Picudo and Mencía. Malvasia is the main white variety, which coexists with and a small extension of Chardonnay.

It is worth mentioning the estate vineyards of the Bodegas Tridente winery are comprised of old or very old vines, 80 to over 100 years age. Rejón, the flagship red wine, is sourced from a 4-hectare Tempranillo parcel planted in 1898. The winery produces mostly red wines, as well as a white wine and a sparkler.
