Bodegas Vizcarra

Bodegas Vizcarra

A family winery in Ribera del Duero.

The project of Bodegas Vizcarra began in 1980, when José Manuel Vizcarra Aguado started planting grapevines in Ribera del Duero. It is worth remembering that, at that time, very few people believed in the possibilities of that region.

Against all odds, in 1991 Juan Carlos Vizcarra, José Manuel's son, founded Bodegas Vizcarra winery and successfully released his first wines – a bunch of young reds and a Crianza - soon afterwards. As years went by, the project grew in parallel with the international reputation of DO Ribera del Duero. In 2007, a new facility was built, specifically designed to process the grapes through gravity, avoiding the use of any sort of pumps.

The Bodegas Vizcarra winery owns 55 hectares of low-yielding Tinta Fina vineyards, as well as oneh ectare of Merlot and several hectares of other international varieties. They are mainly bushvines, though there are also some trellis-trained plantations. All of them are hand-harvested, meticulously selected and carefully vinified.

Among the wines of Bodegas Vizcarra, Vizcarra Senda de Oro deserves a special mention, as it is one of Ribera del Duero's absolute best values.
