Luna Beberide

Luna Beberide

The core values of this Bierzo winery are quality and authenticity.

Founded by Bernardo Luna in 1996, the first red wines of the Luna Beberide winery were produced under the supervision of winemaker Mariano García, a personal friend of Mr. Luna’s and the former chief oenologist of bodega Vega Sicilia. Nowadays, the winery is run by the second generation of the family.

Located halfway between the villages of Cacabelos and Villafranca del Bierzo, right on the Way of St. James, the Luna Beberide estate vineyards cover an extension of approximately 80 hectares, at altitudes from 400 to 900 metres above sea level. The two main varieties are Mencía, El Bierzo's flagship red variety, and the white variety Godello. Some Mencía vines are over 70 years old.

The wines of the Luna Beberide winery are produced following a minimalistic approach so that terroir expression is not impeded. After a meticulous harvest, the grapes are vinified stainless steel tanks with native yeasts with daily pump-overs. The wines are typically aged in oak barrels for variable periods of time, depending on the wine. The barrels are stored in the underground cellar of an old palatial house located in Villafranca del Bierzo.
