Clio 2023
Details
Clio 2023
This is the new vintage of the wine Clio, one of the wines that put DO Jumilla in the map of world wine back in the day.
This blended Spanish red wine is made by Bodegas El Nido - a branch of Gil Family Estates - from a blend of old Monastrell (70%) vines and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%).
As always, this Crianza red wine was crafted by the prestigious Aussie winemaker Chris Ringland, from Barossa Valley.
Macerated and fermented partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in oak barrels, this red wine from Jumilla was then transferred into new American and French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for over a period of 23 months.
We strongly suggest that you decant the red wine Clio 2023 at least 1 hour before you drink it.
This a some serious ageing potential.
| Appearance | The red wine Clio is deep ruby with a garnet rim. |
|---|---|
| Nose | Succulent black fruit presented in all its forms, from fresh to marmalade-ish. This blend of Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon also suggests caramel and toffee, with some gentle hints of toast, cocoa, Havanna cigars and coffee. In the background, some earthy and mineral nuances. |
| Palate | Huge, powerful and savoury, and it also shows a distinctive elegance, thanks to Mr. Ringland's masterful touch. Fruit and freshness define the palate, complemented with exotic touches of spices, violets, some vegetal nuances, some toasted notes, and deep mineral undertones. This wine from Bodegas El Nido has a linear, steely acidity, some ripe tannins and very long finish. |
| Our personal opinion | Rightly bearing a Greek Muse name, the wine Clio 2023 is truly inspiring. |
