Mas de Mancuso

Mas de Mancuso

Since 2015, Jesús and Jorge Navascués craft terroir-driven wines from traditional Aragonese varieties in DO Cariñena.

Founded in 2002 by the Navascués family and Carlos San Pedro, winemaker at Bodegas y Viñedos Pujanza, bodega Mas de Mancuso was first dedicated to the production of mostly industrial wines. In 2015, the Aragonese oenologists Jesús Navascués and his son Jorge, both respected professionals with ample experience in the field of wine production, took charge of the winery and completely redefined its values and goals.

A family project, the Mas de Mancuso winery currently focuses its activity on producing terroir-driven wines from traditional Aragonese varieties sourced from old vineyards. The company is based in Almonacid de la Sierra, a village at around 700 metres of altitude nestled in Sierra de Algairén, a mountain range typically composed of slate and clay soils within DO Cariñena, central Aragón.

The first wines of bodega Mas de Mancuso were made from grapes bought from a local wine grower and vinified in an old underground cellar from 1800, expertly recovered for modern wine production by Jesús and Jorge Navascués. Over the following years, the family team worked hard to consolidate and expand their vineyard portfolio, acquiring some precious Grenache, Carignan and Macabeo vineyards with an average age of 60 years. Made in small quantities, the wines of the Mas de Mancuso winery are vinified and sometimes matured in stainless steel tanks, concrete diposits and Flexitank plastic eggs. When deemed necessary, some wines are aged in French oak barrels, both new and used

After recovering some further old vineyards in the DO Cariñena area in the year 2012, the team launched the Cutio collection of wines, which is also vinified at the facilities of bodega Mas de Mancuso.

The Cutio product range by winemaker J. Navascués consists of one red wine, made basically from Grenache with a dollop of Carignan, and a white wine made from old-vines Macabeo with a droplet of Chardonnay, sourced from young vineyards. It is worth mentioning that both Cutio wines deliver outstanding quality for money.
