Details
Produced by the Itsasmendi winery in DO Bizkaiko Txakolina, in the heart of the Basque Country, the wine Itsasmendi 7 is mainly made from two varieties, Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Zuri Zerrate, with a dollop of Riesling and Izkiriot handi (better known as Gros Manseng).
An unambiguously Atlantic wine, this white wine from Bizkaia is sourced from 9 parcels 14 to 45 years of age, composed of clay-limestone soils and harvested at different ripening stages.
After fermenting in stainless steel tanks of different capacities, this white wine from Bizkaiko-Txakolina was aged for 7-11 months on its lees in the diposits. The white wine Itsasmendi 7 2021 was not touched by wood at any stage of the process.
This highly interesting Txakolí smashes the main stereotype associated with this kind of Spanish white wine – of it being a pleasant thirst-quencher, but not terribly interesting beyond that.
