Details

In 2009, the Pazo Barrantes winery, one of the top players in DO Rias Baixas, achieved its long-held ambition of releasing onto the market a high-end, age-worthy Spanish white wine made solely from Albariño.

A single vineyard wine, La Comtesse de Pazo Barrantes is produced exclusively from grapes coming from Pago Cacheiro, located in the subzone of Val del Salnés.

Harvest was performed manually. Destemmed to remove any element that could distort the expression of the fruit, the grapes were slightly pressed to extract only the most subtle and elegant aromas.

Then the wine must was drawn off and fermented for 60 days in 3,000 litre French wooden vats from Allier under a strict temperature control. This Crianza white wine was subsequently aged for 6 months on its lees.

After that, La Comtesse de Pazo Barrantes 2018 was aged for 12 months in vats, 2 of which on lees, and for a further 12 months in concrete tanks.

Age-worthy and complex, we strongly recommend that you aerate this white wine from Rías Baixas some time before you drink it.

Appearance

The white wine La Comtesse de Pazo Barrantes is deep straw with greenish and golden tinges.

Nose

This is a truly kaleidoscopic Albariño. Creamy and smokey aromas, with fennel, pastry and vanilla, giving way to notes of balsam, citrus and menthol, with some mineral undertones. The complexity is remarkable.

Palate

Smooth and savoury, with volume, definition and character. Flavours of peaches and apricot, nuanced by white flowers, smoke and suggestions of vanilla, aniseed, white tea and nutmeg. This white wine from Pazo Barrantes has a very good acidity and a long finish with some herbal and mineral remembrances.

Our personal opinion

A world-class white wine, La Comtesse de Pazo Barrantes 2018 is truly astounding.

WTF??
Value
The price of this wine almost doubled from one vintage to another. Still very good, but absurdly overpriced.

Astounding!! A wine of enormous stature, with a rich body, creamy and smooth, and real depth. Marvelous Albarino that will live for many years.
