The legendary Champagne Louis Roederer Cristal is made from a blend of Grand Cru grapes grown in the Reims Mountain, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs.
The 2016 vintage was sourced from the best plots owned by Maison Louis Roederer in the Champagne region. This Gran Reserve Champagne is made from Pinot Noir and a lesser percentage of Chardonnay.
After a meticulous harvest, one-third of the wine was vinified in wooden vats, and the rest was vinified in stainless steel tanks.
Secondary fermentation took place in the bottle, after which the Champagne Louis Roederer Cristal 2016 was aged for 8 years. This vintage Champagne was disgorged in July 2024 and aged for 8 months minimum in the cellar.
The stuff of legend, Cristal by Louis Roederer was first produced in 1876 for Alexander II, tsar of Russia.
History has it that, by request of the autocratic monarch, the Maison Roederer provided a transparent, flat-bottomed bottle to ensure that neither poison nor an explosive artifact could be hidden either inside or outside it.
