Product Description
Details

Made from 40 hectares of estate-owned, low-yielding vineyards situated on mild slopes, Pittacum is produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Pittacum, a brand of the Terras Gauda group.

A varietal Mencía, the great indigenous variety from El Bierzo, the grapes were harvested in little boxes, brought to the cellar and carefully selected. Then this Spanish red wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks for 15 days with gentle pump-overs and punch-downs.

After that, Pittacum 2019 was drawn-off and, after a month, it was transferred into American and French oak barrels, where it was aged for 8 months.

Finally, this red wine from El Bierzo was bottled and aged for 24 months in the cellar prior to its commercial release.

Appearance

The red wine Pittacum is medium ruby with a garnet rim.

Nose

Thought it opens tight, this varietal Mencía soon exhibits some enticing notes of wild berries, black fruit, spices, aromatic herbs, dry earth, some mineral undertones, tobacco leaves, cedar and paprika. Quite expressive!

Palate

Bold and meaty, this red wine from Bodegas y Viñedos Pittacum has a very good, refreshing acidity, and a solid structure. Notes of red berries, blood orange, toast and Eastern spices. Velvety tannins, and long, mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

An exemplary Mencía, Pittacum 2019 is lively and savoury. Pair this Crianza red wine with stews and casseroles.

Elegant nose, mineral and spicy. Ripe red fruit on the palate, plus some tips of roses and aromatic herbs. Delightful.
