This is the 2022 vintage of this seriously rare Spanish red wine from La Rioja.
Indeed, the wine San Vicente is the only varietal Tempranillo Peludo ("Hairy Tempranillo") available on the market.
A delicate and refined variety, Tempranillo Peludo was rescued from an almost sure extinction by the Señorío de San Vicente winery - a project of the prestigious Eguren family - in the early 1980s. The winery is located next to its vineyards in the city of San Vicente de La Sonsierra, in Rioja Alavesa.
After a meticulous harvest in which the grapes were selected on site and in the cellar, the grapes were manually destemmed and fermented in oak vats.
After a 22-day maceration period, this Reserva red wine underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.
After that, the red wine San Vicente 2022 was aged for 20 months in the barrels, during which period it was drawn-off every 4 months. It was bottled in July 2024.
