Product Description
Details

Crafted by famed winemaker Alfredo Arribas, the wine Tros de Clos Mas del Metge is produced in El Lloar, Priorat, by the Portal del Priorat winery.

Formerly known as Tros de Clos, this remarkable varietal Spanish red wine is sourced from two Carignan plots planted over 60 years ago in llicorella (slate) and gravel soils at 325 metres of altitude. All of the farming operations are performed manually, following the guidelines of organic and biodynamic agriculture.

Harvested in late September, the undestemmed grapes were spontaneously fermented and macerated in open oak barrels for about 30 days with periodic punch-downs.

After that, the red wine Tros de Clos Mas del Metge 2019 was aged for 14 months in big French oak barrels.

It is important to decant this Crianza red wine no less than 2 hours before drinking.

Pair this organic red wine with meat recipes or, perhaps even better, enjoy it without food.

Appearance

The wine Tros de Clos Mas del Metge is bright cherry with a purple rim.

Nose

Remarkably deep, complex and mineral, with that intriguing freshness which is one of Carignan's trademarks. Fruit is of great quality, and it is delicately nuanced by hints of spices and marvelous suggestions of garrigue, earth, charcoal and petricor. All in all, the old-vines operates as a faithful transmitter of the rugged, unique character of the Priorat terroir.

Palate

Fresh, layered and impressively deep, this Vino de Finca has an excellent acidity and some ripe, delicious tannins. Very precise, suggestive and profound, with plenty of room for growth. This wine of Alfredo Arribas has a very long, marvelously mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

Let us insist on the importance of decanting Tros de Clos Mas del Metge 2019. This is something really special.

1st class Priorat
Value
A top Carignan from the place that produces the best Carignans in the world. Period. Mr. Arribas' restraint in judicious use of oak gives this spellbinding wine an extra layer of subtlety. Exceptional.
