Product Description
Details

Produced by the Valenciso winery, the red wine Valenciso Reserva is a made solely from Tempranillo grapes sourced from low-yielding vines with clay-limestone soils located in Ollauri, Briones, Rodezno, Haro and Villalba, La Rioja Alta, DOCa Rioja

The 2017 vintage was a particularly tough one. A catastrophic frost in April, the worst in 50 years, devastated the vineyards and destroyed 70% of the buds. The remaining 30%, though, ended up yielding grapes of top-notch quality.

Hand-harvested, the grapes were destemmed, macerated and fermented in concrete diposits.

After that, the red wine Valenciso Reserva 2017 was transferred into French oak barrels and aged for 18 months. Then this red wine from La Rioja was aged for a further 12 months in concrete diposits. It was bottled unfined and kept for a further months in the cellar before hitting the market.

Decant this Reserva red wine a minimum of 30 minutes before drinking.

It is worth mentioning that this Spanish red wine has won considerable public and critical acclaim over the last years. So much so, that its classy blue label decorated with a silver leaf has already become a quality trademark.

Very limited production.

Appearance

The red wine Valenciso Reserva is deep ruby with a garnet rim.

Nose

Complex, nuanced and enticingly pure, this varietal Tempranillo suggests liquorice, spices and blackberry jam, with remembrances of forest floor, tree bark, charcoal and dim mineral hints.

Palate

Serious and impeccably crafted, this wine from Bodega Valenciso shows a great balance between a first-class fruit and a judicious use of oak. Lively acidity, sweet, savoury tannins and long finish with remembrances of spices and balsam.

Our personal opinion

A nice piece of work, full of subtleties, Valenciso Reserva 2017 has a remarkable ageing potential.

One of the most elegant Riojas out there. It wears its greatness lightly.
