Cara Nord

A producer of high-altitude wines in the DO Conca de Barberà.
The project of Bodega Cara Nord came into existence through the collaboration of Tomàs Cusiné
(owner of Castell del Remei, Tomàs Cusiné and Cérvoles Celler), Xavier Cepero (Managing Director of
Tomàs Cusiné) and the American importer Eric Solomon (owner of European Cellars). After two decades
of personal friendship and professional collaboration, in 2012 they decided to start a company in an area
called Muntanyes de Prades, southwest of Tarragona. Though formally located within the boundaries of
the DO Conca de Barberà, the place is remarkable in that it constitutes the point of intersection of three
exceptional wine regions: the said DO Conca de Barberà, the DO Montsant and the DOQ Priorat.
Perched on the northern slope of the Prades mountain range, at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level,
the vines of bodega Cara Nord grow in the midst of a geologically rich, unspoiled protected area
classified as a National Park. The weather conditions are nothing short of exceptional, as the area has
extremely pure air, a high insolation, extremely tough winters and hot summers. The winery grows strictly
local varieties, like Grenache, Trepat, Garrut -aka Monastrell- and Macabeo, Spanish varieties such as
Albariño and international ones like Syrah and Chardonnay.
The facilities of the Cara Nord winery are located within the walls of the Cistercian monastery of Santa
Maria de Poblet. The product portfolio comprises red and white still wines. The winery also makes a red
wine, Mineral del Montsant, in the neighbouring DO Montsant.
