San Alejandro

San Alejandro

Located in Calatayud, Aragón, Bodegas San Alejandro crafts intense Grenache wines from old vineyards.

The name of Bodegas San Alejandro comes from the Catholic saint which is buried in the homonymous franciscan monastery located in the nearby town of Miedes. The company's vineyards are at a distance of 4 kilometres from the town, a site where it has been found clear archaeological evidence of winemaking dating back to the second century BCE.

At an altitude of 700 to 1,100 metres above sea level, the old grapevines grow in a dry, barren land of very poor soils with very low-yields. That is to say, conditions which are almost ideal for producing high- quality grapes.

Mainly produced from Grenache, which takes up to 70% of each red blend as well as the whole of the single varietal wines, the wines of Bodega San Alejandro winery from Calatayud ocasionally include little amounts of Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
