The Ferrer Bobet winery is nestled amongst beautiful vineyards with dramatic views not far from the town of Falset, Priorat's wine capital in the province of Tarragona, Spain. The building, a fine piece of architecture perfectly integrated in the landscape, is a gravity-flow winery with multiple levels. The first one is at ground level, while the rest are underneath the winery. Ferrer Bobet's estate comprises 70 hectares of land, of which only 22 are vineyards. The soils are composed mainly of different kinds of slate, the already legendary Priorat's llicorella. The vines grow in steep slopes with different orientations to the sun, which provides for the existence of different micro-climates. All this features bring Ferrer Bobet's wines a unique character and an exceptional complexity.
At present, the winery produces two wines: Ferrer Bobet vinyes Velles and its flagship wine, Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial. Both are made from centenary Grenache and Carignan, Priorat's traditional red varieties. Some years ago, the winery also planted some vines of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier. Nevertheless, it will take a few years for this vines to produce grapes that reach the exacting quality standards established by the company. All vines, incidentally, are grown following strict organic farming methods.
The entire winemaking process of the Ferrer Bobet wines is carried out in a meticulous manner. The wines are fermented in small vats between 15 and 30 hectoliters, and each grape variety always receives a separate vinification. The ageing of these wines takes place in fine grained French oak barrels. To preserve its unique qualities and enhance terroir expression, the wines are neither filtered nor clarified prior to their bottling.
