Product Description
Details

The red wine Artigas is produced by the Mas Alta winery, a project supervised by Michel Tardieu and Philippe Cambie, two prestigious oenologists from the Rhône Valley.

Interestingly, this Spanish red wine from DOQ Priorat is crafted from blend of grapes grown in different kinds of soils and aged in different kinds of barrels. All is done with the aim of reflecting the incomparable Priorat terroir.

This wine from La Vilella Alta is made from Grenache coming from 25-year-old vines, Carignan coming from 90-year-old vines, and Cabernet Sauvignon coming from young vines. Most of the grapes come from estate vineyards.

Manually harvested and selected, the grapes were cold-soaked and fermented at a temperature below 26ºC.

After 15 days, the red wine Artigas 2021 was transferred into new, second and third year French oak barrels, where this Crianza red wine was aged for 16 months.

We suggest that you decant this red wine from Priorat 1 hour before you drink it.

Appearance

The red wine Artigas is medium purple with a garnet rim.

Nose

Marvelously fresh, this Crianza red wine carries some lively notes of damson and bramble, a panoply of exotic spices, some hints of liquorice and menthol, a speck of toast, and a subtle mineral background. This blend of Grenache, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon is very seductive.

Palate

Although this wine from Bodega Mas Alta is big-boned, it is neither heavy nor flabby, thanks to a steely acidity and some lively tannins that promise a long life ahead. There is succulent fruit, garrigue, an enticing floral note and the trademark Priorat minerality. Finish is long and elegant.

Our personal opinion

Bold? Yes, but also, wonderfully fresh and deep. The red wine Artigas 2021 will be a perfect match for hearty dishes.

Mas alta Bodega has been improving its wines year after year. This is a gem, a sort of Priorat meets Bordeaux wine.
