The white wine As Sortes is crafted by Rioja-born winemaker Rafael Palacios, who has played a key role in the rediscovery of the Godello variety – one of Galicia’s most interesting indigenous white grapes.

Descendant of an illustrious wine dinasty, Rafael Palacios – the younger brother of superstar winemaker Álvaro Palacios – makes top-notch white wines in the DO Valdeorras, in the Galician province of Ourense.

A varietal Godello, this Crianza white wine is sourced from six small plots (‘sortes’, in the local parlance) planted in the late 1970s and early 1980s and situated on the north side of Val do Bibei, at roughly 700 metres of altitude.

The low-yielding vineyards have very poor soils of granitic sand, conditions that produce grapes of exceptional concentration and quality. Vineyard management follows the guidelines of organic viticulture and draws inspiration from biodynamic principles.

The hand-picked grapes went through an extremely meticulous selection, after which this white wine from Valeorras fermented spontaneously in 500-litre oak barrels and was aged on lees for 8 months. After being bottled, the white wine As Sortes 2024 was kept for 6 months in the cellar before hitting the market.

Around 25,000 bottles produced.
