Product Description
Details

The Bodegas San Alejandro winery produces the red wine Baltasar Gracián Viñas Viejas, one of Spain's absolute best values, from 60 to 80-year-old vines. This is a vegan red wine.

Those venerable Grenache vineyards are located in the harsh region of Calatayud, in the northern Spanish province of Aragón, at an altitude of 1,100 metres above sea level.

The grapes were harvested by hand, destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After that, this Spanish red wine was aged for 12 months in French oak foudres and 50 hl vats.

Finally, the red wine Baltasar Gracián Viñas Viejas 2021 was naturally filtered and stabilized. Prior to being released, this red wine from Calatayud was aged for a further 6 months in the bottle.

Decant this Crianza red wine 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Baltasar Gracián Viñas Viejas is deep ruby with a violet rim.

Nose

This varietal Grenache is deep and intense. Expressive aromas of wild strawberries and sour cherries, with hints of black fruit preserve, underbrush, toast and spices.

Palate

Savoury and intense, this wine from Bodegas San Alejandro packs flavours of ripe red fruit, with interesting mineral undertones, a dash of undergrowth, and some dim spicy remembrances. Good acidity, ripe tannins and a long, toasted finish.

Our personal opinion

A must-have for Grenache lovers, Baltasar Gracián Viñas Viejas 2021 is excellent with BBQ'd meat and roast recipes.

Value
Yes, Aragon seems to be like the Ali Baba cave for Grenache. This sells for a song and is as good as many wines three times the price.
