Interestingly, the wine Beronia Mazuelo Reserva is the only Reserva from La Rioja made solely from Mazuelo (the local name of Carignan).
Produced by bodega Beronia, this Spanish red wine comes from vines with clay-limestone soils grown following environmentally friendly techniques. The vineyards are located in Ollauri, in the heart of La Rioja Alta.
Harvested by hand on site and in the cellar, the grapes were slowly fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature. After that, Beronia Mazuelo Reserva 2018 was aged for 24 months in hybrid oak barrels - made from American oak staves and French oak tops . Finally, it was aged for 14 months in the bottle before hitting the market.
