Red Wine Clos Mogador 2022
Availability: In stock
We are proud to present the 2022 vintage of the legendary wine Clos Mogador.
This already legendary Spanish red wine bears the label "Vi de Finca Qualificada" (meaning single vineyard wine), the highest official quality distinction granted in Catalonia.
The wine is crafted by the great René Barbier, one of the pioneers who brought Priorat back to life almost three decades ago.
Uncompromising and terroir-oriented, this Reserva red wine is a blend of mostly Grenache and Carignan, complemented with Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from the 20 hectares of vineyards owned by the Clos Mogador winery. They are located at an average altitude of 350 metres above sea level, on a natural amphitheatre made of the legendary Priorat llicorella soils.
Harvested at an optimal ripening state, the grapes were fermented in diposits with a 40% of the stems. Then the wine Clos Mogador 2022 was transferred into 2,000 and 2,500-litre oak vats, old barrels and concrete diposits, where it was aged for 20 months. It was bottled in June 2024.
We suggest that you decant this red wine from Priorat at least 2 hours before you drink it. Longer decantations will greatly improve the wine.
35,000 bottles produced.
| Appearance | The red wine Clos Mogador is medium purple with some reddish and bluish tinges. |
|---|---|
| Nose | It is extremely important to let this blend of Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah breathe. Then we will find notes of blueberries, redcurrants, blackberries, along with an underlying layer of cinnamon, vanilla, clove, an even deeper layer of wet earth, dry stone and ash, and some enticing overtones of blue flowers, incense and sandalwood. |
| Palate | This wine from Clos Mogador embodies the spirit of the land in the most moving manner one can imagine. Impressive tension and phenomenal acidity, with a detailed, surprisingly refined texture underscored by the trademark, unique Priorat minerality. Having said that, we must bear in mind that the wine is still in the making, as its elements are slowly coming together. |
| Our personal opinion | To make a gem like the red wine Clos Mogador 2022 available to our customers is something we consider a privilege. |
