Details
Nelín 2023
The white wine Nelín is crafted by the legendary René Barbier, founder of Bodega Clos Mogador.
This blended Priorat white wine is made from White Grenache, complemented with Macabeo, Cartoixà (the local strain of Xarel·lo), Picapoll Blanc, White Carignan, Escanyavella, Pedro Ximénez and Trepat Blanc. The grapes are sourced from several plots with slate soils located on the outskirts of Gratallops.
After fermenting with the skins in French oak vats and oak barrels, this Spanish white wine was aged for 12 months in 1,200-litre French oak vats.
Then the white wine Nelín 2023 was stabilized in stainless steel tanks for 6 months before bottling.
Finally, it was aged for a further 12 months before hitting the market.
This terroir-bound Crianza white wine has a unique personality, which results from the uncommon combination of local white varieties and the legendary Priorat slate soils.
Production around 7,000 bottles.
Decant 1 hour before drinking.
| Appearance | The white wine Nelín is deep straw with some amber reflections. |
|---|---|
| Nose | This blend of White Grenache, Macabeo, Cartoixà, Picapoll Blanc, White Carignan, Escanyavella, Pedro Ximénez and Trepat Blanc has the complexity and the nuance that characterize the great white wines of the world. Deeply earthy and mineral, it really conveys a sense of place, with very little fruit, expressive aromas of aromatic herbs and spices, and a sort of refined austerity which puts it on a class of its own. |
| Palate | Again, this wine by bodega Clos Mogador is simply stunning. Vibrant and amazingly fresh, with a salty, stony and earthy passage that electrifies the palate. Ever-evolving and engaging, with real complexity and nuance, and a long, deeply mineral finish. |
| Our personal opinion | The one-of-a-kind wine Nelín 2023 makes a strong case for whites being the future of Priorat. |
