Product Description
Details

Born in the DO Bierzo, Corral del Obispo is a varietal Mencía made from 60 to 90-year-old, low-yielding vines located in the town of Valtuille (León).

The maceration and alcoholic fermentation of this Spanish red wine was carried out in wooden casks and steel tanks. After that, this red wine from El Bierzo by Viñedos Singulares was aged in 5,000-litre French oak vats for 6 months. It was bottled unfiltered.

Excellently priced, Corral del Obispo 2020 is a perfect introduction to the Mencía variety.

Appearance

The red wine Corral del Obispo has an intense cherry colour with some violet edges.

Nose

Intense and very pleasant, this Mencía from El Bierzo is full of juicy wild berries, accompanied by creamy notes over a balsamic and herbaceous background. There are also subtle touches of leather.

Palate

Smooth and silky, the fruit of this red wine from El Bierzo continues to be very present. Some liquorice, blueberries, and mineral overtones. Excellent acidity and crunchy tannins. The wine finishes quickly, but leaves a tasty aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

From El Bierzo, Corral del Obispo 2020 is a lively and fresh Crianza red wine which pairs excellently with roasted meat, cold cuts and cured cheeses.

Unimpeachable red wine. Interesting grape, halfway between tempranillo and Pinot.
