The wine Dominio de Atauta La Mala is a seriously small-batch, decidedly one-of-a-kind Spanish red wine from Ribera del Duero.
One of the bottlings of the Single Vineyard collection of the Dominio de Atauta winery, this red wine from Ribera del Duero is sourced from a biodynamically farmed 0.70 ha centenary Tinto Fino parcel, divided into 10 small plots that sit at 950 metres of altitude - thus being one of the highest vineyards in the region.
The pre-phylloxera vines, which are 130 years of age (!!), are planted in a shallow soil - about 70 cm deep - made of clay and sand, below which there is a layer of solid rock from which the roots can extract the essence of the terroir.
The grapes were harvested by hand, selected in the vineyard and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Then this Reserva red wine went through the malo in 2n year French oak barrels.
After that, the red wine Dominio de Atauta La Mala 2018 was aged for 18 months in the barrels. Bottled in June 2020, it was kept for some years in the cellar before its commercial release.
