Details

Produced by Celler del Roure, headed by winemaker Pablo Calatayud, the red wine Les Alcusses from the currently booming DO Valencia is a blend of local and international grapes.

The younger brother of Maduresa, this Spanish red wine is made from Monastrell, Garnacha TintoreraPetit Verdot, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. All of the grapes come from vines planted on sandy and rocky soils, located at different altitudes and heavily influenced by the Mediterranean breeze.

Carefully harvested and selected, the grapes underwent a cold-soaking process for three weeks, after which they were gently crushed and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks.

Then the wine was blended, and finally Les Alcusses 2018 completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 8 months in 5,000-litre oak vats and 250-litre and 500-litre French oak barrels.

This nice red wine from Valencia will pair well with meat recipes and rice dishes.

Appearance

The red wine Les Alcusses is deep ruby with a reddish rim.

Nose

This blend of Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is quite complex. Lively aromas of red fruit and hints of violets, spices and aromatic herbs over a delicately toasted background.

Palate

Medium-bodied, fresh and smooth, this red wine from Celler del Roure has a backbone of red fruit, combined with notes of spices, toast and some mineral undertones. Gentle tannins, fresh acidity and a long, fruity finish.

Our personal opinion

A nice job by winemaker Pablo Calatayud, the red wine Les Alcusses 2018 is an inviting Mediterranean red wine.

Awfully pleasant, affordable Mediterranean red. Oak is judiciously restrained to allow maximum expressiveness.
