Product Description
Details

Produced by bodega Mas LlunesMas Llunes Finca Butarós is a truly remarkable, yet scarcely known Spanish red wine from DO Empordà, Catalonia's northernmost designation of origin.

A blend of old-vines Carignan and Grenache, the grapes come from a single parcel with slate soils, Finca Butarós, planted in the late XIXth century near the village of Garriguella, Alt Empordà.

Hand-harvested and carefully selected, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature with a daily pump-over.

After completing malolactic fermentation, this red wine from L'Empordà was blended and transferred into French oak barrels, where it was aged for a period of 12 months.

Finally, Mas Llunes Finca Butarós 2016 was bottled and aged for 4 years minimum before hitting the market.

Be sure to decant this Reserva red wine at leas 1 hour before drinking.

Limited production.

Appearance

The red wine Mas Llunes Finca Butarós is deep ruby with some violet reflections.

Nose

Rather tight at first, after some aeration this blend of Carignan and Grenache begins to sing, with impressively deep aromas of bluberries, cassis and ripe cherries, intriguing notes of tar and charcoal, notes of aromatic herbs and dim suggestions of clove, leather and cinnamon.

Palate

Dark and brooding, but not over the top, this wine of bodega Mas Llunes exhibits the depth and inner drama which defines the best wines from Empordà. Impressive natural concentration, with sinewy tannins, spectacular acidity and an impressively long finish with profound mineral nuances and notes of herbs and fine tobacco.

Spectacular wine
Value
This is quite impressive. Brooding and dramatic, with a dry minerality and immense depth. Comparable to high-end Chateauneufs.
