Details

Year after year, the exceptional Salanques, produced by the Mas Doix winery, stands out as one of DOQ Priorat's most sophisticated and elegant wines.

A blend of old-vines Grenache and Carignan, 10% of this Spanish red wine comes from young Syrah vineyards around 15 years of age. All of the vines are planted in steep slate slopes at altitudes between 350 and 500 metres above sea level.

Each parcel of vines was meticulously harvested and selected, after which they were separately vinified. The alcoholic fermentation of this Crianza red wine was carried out in stainless steel tanks, with periodic punch-downs of the solid skin cap.

After that, Salanques 2020 went through malolactic fermentation in new and 2nd year French oak barrels, in which it was subsequently aged for 14 months.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this red wine from Priorat was aged for 12 months in the bottle before its release.

Decant 2 hours before drinking.

10,000 bottles produced.

Appearance

The red wine Salanques is deep purple with a ruby rim.

Nose

While showing the trademark minerality of the Priorat region, the nose of this blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah has an elegance very much of its own. Pristine ripe fruit, subtle remembrances of flowers, spicy remembrances, notes of cocoa and coffee, and a dash of Mediterranean garrigue.

Palate

This red wine of the Mas Doix winery is flavourful and detailed, seamlessly merging pure drinking pleasure and intellectual stimulation. Smooth texture and exceptional balance between fruit and oak ageing, with a taut acidity, a deep mineral undercurrent and a very long, ever-evolving finish.

Our personal opinion

We definitely have a soft spot for this wine. Salanques 2020 is one of Priorat's most distinguished representatives. A modern classic in the best sense of the word.
