Known for its white wines, bodega Mar de Envero is the producer of Volandia Mencía Barrica, the first Spanish red wine of the winery.
Hand-harvested in small boxes, the grapes were vinified in stainless steel tanks, where they were cold-macerated before fermenting under controlled temperature.
After that, the red wine Volandia Mencía Barrica 2018 was aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.
Before being bottled, this red wine from Ribeira Sacra was aged for some months in the tanks. Then it was aged in the bottle for 6 months minimum prior to being released onto the market.
This crisp Crianza red wine will make a fabulous pairing with BBQ'd meat and braised vegetables.
The red wine Volandia Mencía Barrica is medium ruby with some cherry-coloured reflections.
This a well-defined varietal Mencía, with typical notes of iron, blood and sour red cherries, a pinch of spices and some notes of herbs and wet earth
This wine from bodega Mar de Envero is floral and supple, with fine tannins, tart red cherries, some mineral and balsamic notes and a ferrous and sanguine undercurrent. Lifted and balanced, with a medium-long finish.
|Our personal opinion
The red wine Volandia Mencía Barrica 2018 is an excellent expression of an Atlantic-style Mencía.
