Arché Pagès

Bodega Arché Pagès is the project of a family that has been dedicated to growing grapes for five generations in the Empordà region of Catalonia. The winery is located in the village of Capmany, in the northernmost part of DO Empordà, near the Pyrénées and the Mediterranean Sea.

The vineyards of Arché Pagès winery cover an area of 20 hectares, mostly planted with local varieties like Grenache, White Grenache, Grey Grenache (locally known as Lledoner Roig), Carignan and Muscat of Alexandria. The international varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. The granitic soils around Capmany are highly acidic and very poor, a fact that, combined with the effect of the tramuntana wind blowing from the north, which prevents vine diseases and increases must density concentration, produces grapes of great quality. The land is tended following environmentally friendly techniques and minimal intervention criteria. The Arché Pagès winery prides itself on doing most vineyard taks by hand.

The wines of Arché Pagès winery are fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature, after which they are usually aged in oak barrels for variable periods of time. The house style is a perfect example of the traditional character of the wines from the DO Empordà.
