A state-of-the-art winery situated in a privileged spot within the Somontano region.
Founded in 2002, bodega Laus is situated in Las Almunietas, an area of great natural beauty at around 400 metres of altitude not far from Barbastro, the main city of DO Somontano.
Composed of rocky and limestone soils with very low levels of organic matter, the 100 hectares of vineyards owned by bodega Laus are divided in two areas. The first, planted in 2003, comprises 15 hectares of Merlot and Syrah vines which surround the main building like a garden. The second, at a distance of roughly one quilometer from the winery, is planted with 15 to 20-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Chardonnay vines. The area has a Mediterranean-Continental climate, with plenty of sunlight and low rainfall.
Equipped with the latest winemaking technology, the main facility of bodega Laus is a two-storey building designed to handle the grapes in the most gentle way. Grape reception and vinification are carried out in the upper level. The ageing takes place in the lower level, a huge room buried 5.65 metres underground that contains around 3.000 oak barrels, both French and hybrid ones (with staves made from French oak and top and bottom parts made from American oak.).
