Bodegas Arrocal

Bodegas Arrocal

A family winery from Ribera del Duero deeply committed to quality.

In 1999, after having inherited a family vineyard, Rosa Arroyo and Moisés Calvo decided to start their own wine project. Soon afterwards they began planting new vineyards, and in 2003 they founded Bodega Arroca. The winery is situated in Gumiel de Mercado, Burgos, DO Ribera del Duero, a village with a long winemaking tradition which is nicely exemplified in the “Bodegas Subterráneas” district, which houses over 100 underground cellars that were used in the past to age wines.

With an extension of 65 hectares, the estate vineyards of Bodegas Arrocal are planted mainly with Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), as well as Cabernet SauvignonMerlot and the local white variety Albillo. The winegrowing methods are traditional and non-interventionist, aimed at maximizing terroir expression.

The grape are meticulously vinified and handled only by gravity to preserve the quality of the fruit. The ageing room is equipped with 600 oak barrels, 80% French and 20% American.

While displaying many of the traits typical of good Riberas, the Arrocal wines have a distinctive freshness which makes them particularly attractive.
