Bucrana

Characterful wines in DO Toro.
Bodega Bucrana is a branch of the Bornos Bodegas y Licores group, a company that owns several wine projects across the northern half of Spain. Although the origins of the winery date from 1980 – a time in which the wines from the DO Toro were virtually unknown to the public – the main facility was not built until 1997, when the region began arousing interest among wine critics and discerning aficionados.
The vineyards of the Bucrana winery cover an area of roughly 20 hectares, dedicated to the flagship variety of the region, Tinta de Toro. The bushvines, aged 20 years on average, are planted in clay-sandy soils in the province of Zamora, an area with bitterly cold winters, excruciatingly hot summers, plenty of sun hours and scarce rainfall. Plant density is 2,000 vines per hectare.
The wines of Bucrana winery are made by Víctor Fernández, a Biology and Oenology graduate that was named "Best Young Oenologist" in 2014 by Vinouvelle. The product portfolio of this winery from Toro is solely comprised of varietal Tinta de Toro wines aged in oak, which showcase different expressions of Toro's mighty native variety.
