Comando G

Comando G

World-renowned producer of Garnacha de Gredos.

A key name in the contemporary history of Spanish wine, bodega Comando G has been one of the main
forces behind the rediscovery of the Sierra de Gredos region, a phenomenon comparable to the Priorat
renaissance of the late XXth century that has draw worldwide attention to the wines made in Gredos, most notably to the amazing Garnacha de Gredos.

Founded in 2009 by Dani Landi and Fernando García, the Comando G winery is named after a
Japanese anime series from the 1980s (known as Gatchaman in English). The letter G appropriately
encapsulates the two defining factors of the Gredos terroir: the Grenache grape, the flagship variety of the region, and the granitic soils, that are ubiquitous across the area and have come to be as closely associated with Gredos as slate is with Priorat.

Split between three provinces, Ávila, Madrid and Toledo, the Sierra de Gredos mountain range is a
relatively homogeneous area that, for bureaucratic reasons, is not unified under a single designation of
origin, but instead divided into three: DO Cebreros, DO Vinos de Madrid and DO Méntrida. Most of the
vineyards of bodega Comando G, which cover a surface area around 15 hectares, are located in DO
Cebreros, at roughly 1,000 to 1,200 metres of altitude. As well as the granitic soils, there are some plots
with slate soils. Although the white varieties play a secondary role, in the mid 2020s the winery planted a
few hectares of White Grenache and Albillo Real to increase white wine production.

Bodega Comando G follows the Burgundian classification: Regional, Village, 1r Cru and Grand Cru. The
wines of Comando G always go through a full-cluster fermentation in huge vessels, with an extremely
gentle extraction of colour and tannin that results in ethereal, incredibly elegant terroir-bound wines. The
product porftolio of Comando G winery begins with impeccable regional wines like La Bruja, and
culminates in superb Grand Cru / Single-Vineyard expressions, like Tumba del Rey Moro and Rumbo al
Norte, already the stuff of legend.
