Muga

Muga

One of Rioja's biggest names. The proud keeper of a unique tradition.

Currently headed by the third generation of the family, the vineyards of Bodegas Muga winery are located in the northern area of La Rioja Alta, between the basins of the Oja and Tirón rivers. The soils are mainly composed of clay and limestone, and the climate combines some Mediterranean and Continental influences, a fact which allow the grapes to ripen fully and steadily. The most important red varieties are Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Grenache and Graciano, and the white ones are Viura and Malvasía.

Interestingly, the Muga wines are aged in oak barrels of various origins built in the Muga winery's own cooperage. In 2008, the company inaugurated “Espacio Torre Muga”, a three-storey building which hosts all kinds of activities related to the world of wine.
