Torralbenc

Torralbenc

Mediterranean charm in the heart of Menorca.

The project of Bodega Torralbenc is located in the village of Alaior, a Mediterranean paradise in the south-est part of the enchanting island of Menorca. The project started in 2005, when the Sidercom group bought an old and derelict 77-hectare estate with the aim of building a winery and a high-end countryhouse hotel. The rehabilitation project began in 2011, and the hotel was inaugurated in 2013.

Vineyard plantation in the former agricultural land of the Torralbenc estate, an area that had never been used for grape cultivation in the past, proved nonetheless a rather challenging task, which took more than a decade to complete. Besides having been abandoned for more than three decades, the marés soils, a type of limestone characteristic of Menorca, made it very difficult to break the rock for planting the vines. The first vineyard was planted in 2006, the second fase was completed in 2013 and the final one was achieved in 2017. Currently, the Torralbenc winery cultivates 14 hectares of vineyards, planted with 10 grape varieties: Merlot, Syrah, Monastrell, Parellada, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Chardonnay, MalvasiaManto Negro and Pinot Noir.

The first wines of Torralbenc winery were released in 2016. Headed by the agricultural engineer José Ramón Lissarrague, this Spanish winery currently has a wide product portfolio. Torralbenc Tinto, a red wine from Menorca, nicely showcases the house style.
