Details
Aiurri Salas 2021
The Aiurri winery, the recently launched DOCa Rioja project of the renowned Alma Carraovejas group from Ribera del Duero, proudly presents the fist vintage of the wine Salas, a high-end Spanish red wine that captures the essence of an exceptional centenary vineyard.
A blend of Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Viura, the grapes are sourced exclusively from the Salas vineyard, a 2.6-hectare parcel with loamy soils sheltered by the Sierra the Toloño mountain range and located near the village of Leza, an area with a special microclimate which favours a steady and homogeneous ripening of the fruit.
The grapes were hand-harvested on October 2nd and 13th, 2021. The wine must fermented spontaneously in French oak vats, with gentle extractions and short macerations. After that, 40% of this red wine from La Rioja – produced with the first batch of grapes – was aged for 18 months in concrete diposits. The other 60% completed the process in French oak barrels of different capacities.
After making the final blend, the red wine Aiurri Salas 2021 was aged for 9 months in concrete diposits and French oak barrels. The wine was bottled in Spring 2023 and kept in the cellar for a further year before hitting the market.
We suggest decanting this Crianza red wine 1 hour before drinking.
5,000 bottles produced.
| Appearance | The red wine Aiurri Salas is dark purple with some deep ruby and violet reflections. |
|---|---|
| Nose | This blend of Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Viura is layered and opulent, with black pepper, cinnamon, clove and chocolate underpinning exquisitely ripe blackberries, boysenberries and plums, with a dash of blue flowers and some intriguing mineral undertones. |
| Palate | This single vineyard red wine of the Aiurri winery is meaty and expressive, with a core of spicy black fruit framed by silky tannins and a superb acidity. Quite rich and exotic, but also conveying a definite sense of place, with a very long finish suggesting flowers and spices. |
