The wine Áster El Espino is an interesting single vineyard red wine made by Bodega Áster, the brand of Grupo La Rioja Alta in DO Ribera del Duero.
A varietal Tinta del País, this Spanish red wine is sourced from Parcela El Espino, a 7.9-hectare vineyards with sandy soils located in Anguix (Burgos), at 800 metres above sea level.
After a manual harvest and a meticulous sorting process, this red wine from Ribera del Duero went through a pre-fermentation cold maceration before fermenting in stainless steel tanks. Then the wine completed the malo, one half in the tanks and the other in used French oak barrels.
Then the red wine Áster El Espino 2021 was aged for 12 months in 20% new French oak barrels, during which period it was manually racked 2 times. Before being bottled in May 2023, it was further aged for 4 months in tanks to round it off.
Aerate this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.
