Details

This is the latest vintage of Bàrbara Forés Coma d'en Pou from DO Terra Alta, the flagship Spanish red wine of Celler Bàrbara Forés winery.

Entirely rethought, this Crianza red wine no longer includes international varieties in the blend. Completely indigenous, it is now made from a remarkably original combination of three Grenache variants: Grenache, Hairy Grenache and Grey Grenache.

Surrounded by olive trees, holm oaks and aromatic plants, the vines grow in soils composed of sand and limestone. Climate is harsh, with hot summers and dry, cold winters.

The grapes were harvested by hand on September 20. Once in the premises, they were cold macerated for 13 days, partially destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks and open barrels with native yeasts. After that, Bàrbara Forés Coma d´En Pou 2019 was aged for 13 months in 500-litre French oak barrels for 13 months.

To enjoy it at its fullest, it is important to decant this red wine from Terra Alta at least 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Bàrbara Forés Coma d'en Pou is deep ruby with a cherry and violet rim.

Nose

This blend of Grenache, Hairy Grenache and Grey Grenache displays all the facets of red fruit: from yummy, ripe strawberries to sour Morello cherries, with cranberries and raspberries in between. There is an enticing earthy and mineral background, subtle spicy notes, and hints of flowers and Mediterranean undergrowth.

Palate

This wine from Celler Bàrbara Forés is lively, crunchy and terroir-bound. Still evolving, with yummy tannins, a superb acidity and an incipient complexity. Very long finish with an aftertaste of red berries and underbrush.

Our personal opinion

The most interesting vintage thus far, Bàrbara Forés Coma d'En Pou 2019 proves that Bàrbara Forés is one of the top players in DO Terra Alta.

Good red wine from Terra Alta

I'm getting to love the wines from Terra Alta. If you like the intensity of Priorat reds but sometimes you find the wines a little bit too earthy for your taste, try this one. And a nice price it has too.
